The role of packing tapes in 2021

When you think of a packing tape, you probably think of a standard plastic packing tape on a standard packing tape dispenser. Necessarily you wouldn’t be wrong, but the story goes much further.

There are several types of packing tape to choose from, and we will cover a few of them.

BOPP tape

BOPP is a Biaxial Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) film coated with a water-based adhesive. Today, you can see them anywhere and everywhere from carton sealing, bundling, logistics, shipping, and inventory management. What’s important to note that these tapes can be made from recycled polymers and are environmentally friendly, non-toxic in nature, safe to use, and easily recyclable.

PVC tape

PVC tape is made from polyvinyl chloride what makes it extra strong, but it also makes it bad for the environment. So if you can avoid using it, please do. It leaches toxic elements into the soil if not disposed of properly.

Self-Adhesive Kraft Paper Tape

Unlike gummed Paper tape, self-adhesive doesn’t need water for activation. In addition, tapes’ long-lasting and environmentally friendly adhesive does not contain any solvents like in some other tapes.

Self-adhesive paper tape has strong moisture resistance and can be applied securely to most surfaces.

Clever use of packing tape for smarter product shipping.

No matter the type, you should always have in mind these few tips on how to use, apply, and store your tapes to make the most of them.

Custom packing tape is a great entry point into custom packaging. With a small budget, you can push your brand’s unboxing experience that extra mile you needed.

Packing tapes usually come with a clear/white base (BOPP) or brown kraft paper variant, and then you can apply color and designs there.

When it comes to customizing plastic tape, you have a lot of options. You can print in any color you want, and you could print color on the base, or you could make use of the clear undercoat or the white undercoat.

On the other hand, paper tapes offer you a unique natural brown pattern that can go a long way with just one or two colors. Usually black or white.

The design of the tape should be based on a repeating pattern because it’s going to be printed with a rotary printing plate, so you have to bear in mind not to have a gap in the design.

At Modepack, we can help you figure out the best way to implement the desired design and choose the right tape for you and your brand.
